“Another smash hit” Mission Hills Country Club and Desert Prosthetics and Orthotics Group Collaborate on Wheelchair Tennis.

Focus. Drive. Discipline, these are the qualities required for athletic excellence, right?
For wheelchair athletes like Desert's own Rob Hanly, the opportunity to play his sport with other likeminded athletes is the greatest requirement of all. Every day many of us participate in the myriad of excellent recreational and sport opportunities that drew us to the Desert. For wheelchair athletes, the greatest gift is a venue to focus on training, competition and winning.
Realizing the importance of wheelchair sport to disabled athletes, Mission Hills Country Club and Desert Prosthetics and Orthotics Group collaborated to make the Desert the destination for wheelchair tennis. Following last year’s smash hit inaugural tournament, the 2nd Annual Desert Prosthetics and Orthotics Group Wheelchair Classic will be hosted by Mission Hills October 30, to November 1, 2009.
The destination tournament attracts nationally-ranked players from all over the US, offering prize money for the winners of the open women’s and men’s categories. About her experience last year finalist Hope Lewellen said,” it inspired me to look for a new home to train” for her Olympic tennis dreams. Rob Hanly adds, the Mission Hills tournament “was a great first step into competitive tennis, the beginning of new passion”.
As the tournament gains momentum, volunteers and community partners are welcome to express their support for education, wellness, equipment, or outreach. For more information please contact Desert Prosthetics and Orthotics Group at
